The Devil Made Me Do It
I was planning another entry today, but the devil persuaded me to follow its lead in another direction for this one. The Devil Wears Prada*, that is.
The fact that Meryl Streep is the Avatar of the acting world and I could watch her say, “Blah, blah, blah,” for two hours has nothing to do with this choice. The “devil” teaches us an amazing lesson in this movie. Miranda (Streep) was, for lack of a better word, a heifer. She was mean, nasty and just plain stank-a-dank. We’ve met people like this that try to make you feel bad by saying crass things or giving you dirty looks. Like Miranda these people are itchbays (brush up on your Pig Latin), but they need your compassion more than anyone else. Oh no! Yes, I said it. These people are really hurting more than you know. Case in point, the scene where she is sitting on the couch, with no makeup (looking fiercely flawless), gives us a glimpse into her hidden pain. She breaks down at the thought of another divorce, her children’s vulnerability, and the thought of what others will say. Some may have been thinking that serves her right, and you reap what you sow and all that other stuff we’ve been taught to say about hurting people masquerading as jerks.
Granted, people like Miranda are difficult to stomach. However, they are so full of emotional toxins that their attitudes smell like sewers. Your destiny could be behind your response to difficult people and situations. Contrary to popular opinion, an eye for an eye is so yesterday. It’s easy to like likeable people, but the Avatars of the planet learn the greatest lessons from those people that make us uncomfortable when they walk in the room. If nothing else you learn what you shouldn’t do. How can you have peace in the presence of this “Hell on Heels”? You stop and thank your Higher Self (your best you…the one you want to be everyday) for all that is good in your life. Next, you say a little secret prayer for them asking they get hit by a…TRUCKload of joy. See you after the show.
